The Priestley-Savidge House is a home of historical distinction, a jewel of the Susquehanna Valley. It stands as a legacy of the descendants of Joseph R. Priestley and Claude Savidge of Northumberland, Pennsylvania. |
|
In 1918, the property was purchased by Claude and Mary Savidge. At that time, the home was considered too remote for their liking and the couple spent winters "in town" as to not be isolated on the dirt road to Danville. As years past, the children of the couple, H. Blanche Savidge and her brother, Dr. Luther Savidge remained unmarried and lifetime occupants. Coincidently, the home was purchased during its 150th year anniversary by David W. Hollabaugh Jr, and Matthew W. Strauser. Matthew, a descendant of Northumberland had admired the home since childhood. After learning of the commission of the home as a wedding gift from Mr. Priestley, they decided to offer the property to the public in celebration of these prominent families. Thus the Priestley-Savidge House was born as the area’s premier wedding and event destination, inviting guests to share in its rich legacy.
